The Day Saida Arrived: Picture Book

My Thoughts:

When Saida arrived, the main character wants to ease her sadness.

The day Saida arrived, it seemed to/me that she had lost all her words./So I tried to look for them in every nook cranny corner drawer seam/to see if, between them and me,/we might get rid of her tears and/throw away her silence.

Saida, who arrives from Morocco does not have the words to express herself so the two new friends adventure together to learn each other's words together and find words of every shape, sound and size.

Through their adventures, they exchange language and each girl is richer because they have shared culture and values and food through their exchange of words.

This multi cultural, multi lingual book is about reshaping our ear, our tongue, our eyes for different language. It is also about how rich cultures are when we are able to learn their words. This book allows middle grade students to explore their own words from their families by searching in every nook, cranny, corner, drawer, and seam.
